Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 Third Series in Yellow Gold & Patek Philippe Ref. 5077 Achieve World Record Results at Antiquorum Auction

Antiquorum’s May 11 auction of “Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces” totaled CHF 5, 352, 850. Competitive bidding resulted in world record prices for a Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 Third Series in yellow gold and a Patek Philippe Ref. 5077 with enamel dial. Of the 293 collectible timepieces offered, 84% sold by lot and 122% sold by value, based on the low estimate. The highlight of the sale was unquestionably the exceptional Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 Third Series in yellow gold (lot 293). The rare perpetual calendar provoked a bidding war between six phone bidders and four room bidders finally selling for an exceptional CHF 465, 750, nearly twice its high estimate.“We are extremely pleased with the outcome for the Philippe Ref. 2499 Third Series in our May auction, ” said Julien Schaerer, Managing Director & Auctioneer, Antiquorum Geneva. “It is clear from today’s results that the market for rare timepieces in excellent condition remains robust.”The iconic Patek Philippe Ref. 5016 (lot 292) in platinum was also coveted by collectors and attained CHF 663, 750 at the Geneva sale.

Other stand-out pieces from Patek Philippe also achieved spectacular results. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5077 with “American Indian” cloisonné dial (lot 290) inspired fierce bidding from collectors across the world and achieved a remarkable CHF 201, 750, exceeding its high estimate by CHF 80, 000 and setting a world record for a Patek Philippe Ref. 5077.

Also attracting considerable attention, the Patek Philippe Ref. 5959 Coaxial Split-Seconds Chronograph in platinum (lot 289) attained CHF 243, 750.Vintage Rolex watches commanded noteworthy prices in the May sale. The Rolex Ref. 6241 Paul Newman (lot 278) was in great demand and sold for CHF 117, 750. Also inspiring competitive bidding was the Rolex Ref. 6538 James Bond, 4 Lines (lot 207) that surpassed its high estimate and sold for CHF 87, 500. In addition, the Rolex “Solo” watches brought significant results; the black dial Rolex Ref. 6238 “Solo Rolex” (lot 275) attained CHF 72, 500; while the white dial Ref. 6238 (lot 276) achieved CHF 87, 500.
Modern watch enthusiasts battled over the Richard Mille RM 006 Titanium Tourbillon 07/20 (lot 263) offered in the sale. The tonneau-shaped wristwatch with one-minute tourbillon elicited intense competition and achieved CHF 177, 750
An Omega with Cloisonne Dial depicting Neptune’s Chariot (lot 233) was highly sought-after; the extremely rare timepiece, possibly the fourth undiscovered chariot enamel dial, sold for over twice its high estimate at CHF 97, 350.
Finally, a rare Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Great Explorers “Magellan” Yellow Gold Wandering Hour Watch with Champleve Dial (lot 121) sold for an impressive CHF 77, 500.
